Vision

Fairport students will develop the technology literacy required to be successful life-long learners and citizens in a global and increasingly networked society. Being literate in the 21st century requires us all to effectively utilize technology to create, publish, communicate, network, research, learn, discover, interpret, and collaborate.

Our Beliefs

We believe that students should:

1. Be taught to be technologically literate from the very beginning of their education.

  • early grades coordinated exposure to technology.
  • balanced literacy that reflects our technical society.

2. Have opportunities to engage with literacy in 21st century mediums.

  • 24/7 access to learning resources.

3. Have a safe and protected environment which minimizes the risk of encountering dangerous people and inappropriate content.

4. Utilize technology in ways that makes learning purposeful and real.

  • podcasting (audio & video)
  • mobile technologies (e.g. GPS receivers, science probes, mobile phones)

5. Have opportunities to collaborate with others that cross time and space.

  • web meetings (e.g. – Elluminate, Adobe Connect, etc.)

6. Have access to current software/hardware that meet their diverse learning styles.

  • software and hardware that is age appropriate and accessible to all learners, including those with disabilities.

7. Value and respect the social impact and ethical issues regarding technology.

  • positive and negative impact of technology in society and the laws impacting the use of technology
  • ethical issues and how technology is used in the home, at work, and for pleasure

8. Experience technology as an interdisciplinary tool

  • technology is a tool to enhance learning in all disciplines
  • technology literacy is key to success in all fields of study
